Population Estimates

The size of the population is estimated on an annual basis, using 30th June (mid-year) as a reference point. Following the publication of the mid-year population estimates, a range of other population statistics are released. Information about the administrative sources used to produce population estimates can be found in the 'Information on the quality assurance arrangements for administrative data used in population estimates' paper on the National and Official Statistics section of this website.
