Background

This section contains data concerning the migration of people between Scotland and the three other constituent nations of the United Kingdom; England, Wales and Northern Ireland.

The main source of data used to produce National Records of Scotland (NRS) estimates of this sort of migration is GP registration information. More information on how these migration estimates are derived can be found in the Methodology section.

Data

The migration datasets can be viewed as Excel files (xlsx) or as a comma separated values files (csv).

Dataset includes: In and out migration between Scotland and the rest of the United Kingdom,  from 1991 to most recent.

Dataset includes: In, out and net migration between Scottish administrative areas and the rest of the United Kingdom by sex, from 2001-02 to most recent. Please note that NHS Board level data for migration between 2001-02 and 2010-11 can be found in the Archive section of the National Records of Scotland (NRS) website.
