Population Pyramids of Scotland

21 October 2019

Correction – please note NRS identified an error in the Scottish mid-year population estimates for 2002 to 2010 affecting the age distribution of older age groups which made the 90+ population too small and the population of those aged 81 to 89 too large. Corrected population estimates were published on 25 September 2018. Further information on the error can be found within this document.

This page contains population pyramids of Scotland showing the changing age and sex structure of the country over time. It uses both estimated and projected population data. These charts will be particularly useful for users who are interested in the changing demographics of Scotland.
