Variant Population Projections for Scotland’s Strategic Development Plan Areas and National Parks (2008-based)

Variant Population Projections for Scotland’s Strategic Development Plan Areas and National Parks (2008-based)

21 July 2010

High and low migration variant population projections for Scotland’s Strategic Development Plan Areas and National Parks are now available. They are consistent with the variant projections for Scotland published on 21 October 2009, and the variant projections for Scotland’s administrative areas published on 3 February 2010.

This is the first time variants have been published for these areas. These projections are not National Statistics.

Population projections have limitations. A projection is a calculation showing what happens if particular assumptions are made. Projections for small areas like the National Parks are likely to be less reliable than those for larger areas, for example, the 2033 projected population for the high migration variant projection for Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park is slightly lower than the principal projection for this area. This is because smaller areas are more sensitive to the methodology and constraints in place.
