Migration within Scotland

Background
Migration within Scotland refers to people moving from one part of Scotland to another. For example people might move from one council area to another or from one NHS Board area to another. These moves do not affect the size of Scotland’s population but do affect the size of the population of areas within Scotland.
The main source of data used to produce the National Records of Scotland (NRS) estimates of this sort of migration is GP registration information. More information on how these migration estimates are derived can be found in the migration statistics Methodology section of this website.
