Note: This report was published on 30 October 2002. At the time of publishing this report, mid-year population estimates had been finalised for 2001. However, some charts and tables in the report cover the period prior to 2001 and the exercise to revise the population estimates for the period 1982 to 2000 was not finalised until after this report was published. Reference to this is made near the start of Chapter 2 of the report under '2001 Census - caution'.
