1991 Census Special Workplace Statistics

Special Workplace Statistics (SWS) contain data from the 1991 Census, showing the travel to workflows of people employed or self-employed by unitary council area.  The data is broken down by council area lived in at the time of the census and the area which people travelled to for their place of work. The data also includes people living in Scottish council areas who travelled to a workplace in England and Wales and outside Great Britain.

The tables provided are the ones listed in the published 1991 Census User Guide Prospectus No. 36 entitled "Special Workplace Statistics", and are for a 10% sample of the Census data.

Note: The tables below are available as an Excel spreadsheet and in comma separated value (CSV) format. When opening the spreadsheet files your browser, depending on how it's been configured, will prompt to either open the file or save it to disk. The maximum file size is 1,572 Kb.

Note 1: The tables below are mainly offered for the purpose of extracting figures. Due to the size of the files they are not recommended for printing.
