Introduction
Estimates of the Scottish population by Country of Birth and Nationality from the Annual Population Survey (APS).
These figures differ from the official mid-year population estimates (MYE) published by National Records of Scotland (NRS), as the APS excludes students in halls who do not have a parent resident in the UK and people in most other types of communal establishments (for example hotels, boarding houses, hostels, care homes, prisons, mobile home sites, etc). Whilst the official MYE are available by sex and age, the APS can be used to provide population estimates by additional variables, including country of birth and nationality.
The latest figures are for the year to end of December 2018. Comparable UK figures can be found on the ONS website.
