Correction

On 9 August 2012 and 30 August 2012, two updates were made to the shapefiles which accompany this publication. The first removed the population estimates within the attributes of the shapefiles as they were found to be inconsistent with the published population estimates in the Excel files (Settlements - Table 1, Settlements - Table 2, Localities - Table 1 and Localities - Table 2). A further update to the shapefiles corrected the boundaries for 19 localities (Aboyne, Bridge of Earn, Dornoch, Dunblane, Fenwick, Findhorn, Garelochhead, Inverness, Killearn, Kilmarnock, Kirkcaldy and Dysart, Muirkirk, Newtonmore, Peebles, Perth, Peterculter, Saltcoats, Strathpeffer and Thankerton). The settlement boundaries have not changed. The boundaries for all settlements and localities are now consistent and the shapefiles no longer contain any population data, with the population data now being found only in the publication’s four Excel tables. These corrections have not caused the population estimate for any settlement or locality within Scotland to change. Three additional shapefiles are now available to provide further information on settlement and locality boundaries.
