An error has been found in table two between two constituencies in the Ayrshire area.  Both the number of electorate and attainers have been updated for Ayr, Carrick and Cumnock and Kilmarnock and Loudoun.  These amendments do not affect any other tables or totals.

Key Points

At 2 March 2020:

  • The total number of UK Parliament electors in Scotland was 4,079,600. This represents an increase of 91,100 (2.3%) on the number of electors registered at 1 December 2019.
  • A total of 15,400 British citizens resident overseas were registered to vote in elections to the UK Parliament, nearly a third higher than the 11,600 recorded at 1 December 2019.
  • Around a sixth (17%, or 697,600 people) of UK Parliament electors had registered for postal voting,
  • The number of people registered to vote in Scottish Parliament and Local Government elections was 4,227,700. This is an increase of 60,300 (1.4%) on the number registered at 1 December 2019.
  • There were 73,100 young people aged 16 or 17 registered to vote at Scottish Parliament and Local Government elections, 1.7% of the total electorate. 
  • Just over 145,000 EU citizens were registered to vote in Scottish Parliament and local government elections, 3.4% of the total electorate.
