Note: The figures in this release have been superseded by the final figures, which appear in the Vital Events Reference Tables 2010.

This return gives the Registrar General's provisional figures for vital events registered during 2010.

Correction of errors

We regret that, until 25 March 2011, Table P1 contained an incorrect figure (12) for Civil Partnerships Dissolved for 2010. The table has now been corrected, and shows the correct preliminary figure, which is 39. The error arose because the way in which the Scottish Court Service (SCS) provides data on dissolutions of civil partnerships changed during 2010. Unfortunately, we produced the originally-published figure in exactly the same way as we had done in previous years, which involved using a dataset which did not include the data that SCS provided electronically for the later months of 2010. This problem should not recur, as that dataset is being superseded by one that includes data for the whole of 2010.

In addition, from 4 July 2011, some small percentage changes have been made to the figures for Divorces for the years from 1985 to 2008, inclusive (and to the corresponding 5-year averages). This is due to the Revision of the historical series of Divorce figures in August 2009. These changes should have been made to the previous version of this table that was published in March 2010 - unfortunately they were not, due to an oversight on our part.

We apologise for any problems or inconvenience caused by these errors.

Notes
Rates for 1994-2000 are based on revised estimates for 1994-2000, which took account of the final census-based population estimates for 2001.

Because of corrections and late registrations the provisional annual totals given in the Preliminary Return may not equal the sum of the figures given in the four Quarterly Returns.
