Background

Background

This publication contains the mid-1996 to mid-2000 Small Area Population Estimates (SAPE) for Scotland.

In late 2005, CACI Ltd produced pre-2001 historic small area population estimates for a number of years, under contract to the Scottish Government. In August 2007 National Records of Scotland published the mid-year SAPE at data zone level for 1996, 1997, 1998, 1999 and 2000. Further details of the background to the project and a description of the methodology used to produce the small area population estimates are available from the Statistics Customer Service team using our Contact us page.

This report presents the mid-1996 to mid-2000 estimates for data zones, by gender and five-year age groups. The estimates are consistent with the Revised Mid-Year Population Estimates for 1996 to 2000 for administrative areas.
