Key Points
At 1 December 2020:
- The total number of people registered at December 2020 to vote in Scottish Parliament and local government elections was 4,208,900, an increase of 41,600 (1.0%) compared with December 2019.
- 675,100 electors had registered for postal voting (although it is anticipated there will be an increase on the number of people registering for a postal vote in the lead up to the 6 May elections to the Scottish Parliament in response to Covid).
- Of the 4,208,900 number of people registered to vote at Scottish Parliament and local government elections, 73,300 (1.7% of the total electorate) were aged 16 -17.
- Just over 157,400 EU and other qualifying foreign nationals resident in Scotland were registered to vote in Scottish Parliament and local government elections, 3.7% of the total electorate.
- The number of people registered to vote in UK parliamentary elections was 4,012,400.
